So we still have 3 days till our next game and we gotta post something, so let's get back to how cancerous Perry Pearn was. Actually scratch that. Perry Pearn was clearly a huge reason why the Habs were terrible, but there is someone else who has been absent for the last 3 wins. A certain 8 million dollar centerman. A certain Alaskan Mexican. A certain Scott Gomez.
Let's put things into perspective. Scott Gomez was never gonna live up to this ludicrous contract. I don't think anybody ever really expected him to. 8M in this league should technically get you 40 goals and 100 pts, a Norris Trophy or a top 3 goalie. In Gomez, we obviously don't get any of those things. I think he has a better chance at winning the Vezina than he does getting 100pts. At best, I was hoping for 5 millions' worth, even 4. But so far, we're getting about $750K out of him. Roughly 10%. Not just in offensive productivity, but in general. He's not leading, he's not inspiring, he's not taking shots off the face, he's not giving any of his money back and unfortunately, he's not going anywhere via trade. He's actually making his linemates worse and he's the king of the neutral zone giveaway. With 2 more years on his deal after this one and a 7.3M cap hit, he's harder to move than Fat Albert. So let's stop bitching about how much he's underachieving and let's figure out what to do with him.
We really only have 2 options: Buyout or stick him in the minors, Redden style. Personally, sending him to the minors is the equivalent of Gauthier sending him to his room. Go to your room Mr. Gomez and think about what you did! No way Geoff Molson is gonna pay his full salary even if it's off the books. You're not really looking at teaching him a lesson. This is not an attitude problem, it's a skill problem. He just can't cut it anymore. I know it, you know it, vegetable lasagna knows it. And he'd still be a distraction in Hamilton. At this point, we're left with the buyout. You still get a cap hit of about 3.5, but at least he's out of your hair and you can just turn the page. Good thing Ryan McDonagh isn't doing anything. What? He's on pace for 24 goals and 40 points? And he makes 1.3M? And he's 22? And the Habs defense sucks ass? Somehow, Glen Sather seems like a jerkoff and a genius at the same time.
To make a long story short, right now, there's no room on this team for Scott Gomez, and this is a team with a guy called Mike Blunden on it. Put the salary and the politics aside, his stats and general usefullness ain't there. You can't take out Desharnais or Eller, so unless you somehow convince Gomez to show up to play 4th line minutes and shut up about it, you gotta dump him. Cut your losses. We can't sugar coat this one. It was a disaster move that set us back and the better McDonagh does in NY, the more it will hurt. It's like taking off a band-aid. Better fast than slow.
So Pierre, when you get up from your nap, get to work already and dump him.

you mean Mr. Vegetable Lasagna.
Well done. I'm happy go get to keep the triple five for the week.
WV: Scott Gomez isn't an abbilfw anymore.
Enter him in the Iditarod as a marketing stunt and have him "mysteriously" dissapear during race.
Knowing how this team doesn't sign contracts during season - I can't imagine them buying one out as well.
With Eller, PK and Price being RFAs,management will assess the situation in offseason as a whole, as they always do, and figure out IF buying out Cheech will free up the cap space to operate accordingly.
There's no doubt that roster wise, Scotty's has less and less of a role now but it sounds like a money move and not a roster move anymore.
This could get dirty.
You know primavera is italian for spring.
My Grade for the Mexicant Oct 2011
Gomez – (A++)- For getting injured and not hurting my eyes with his little girl shot and fearing penetration more than I did during my first night in a Pakistani prison.
Straight to Hamilton or better still by a team in Sibera and send him there, no cap it, no bad shit with our future in Hamilton.
Somewhere else on the blogsphere I asked the question..."does Gomez bring leadership and authority to the dressing room even if he does fuck all on the ice" I don't know the answer to that but if it is a resounding "NO" then I think a buyout is the only way to deal with it. A great deal of the Habs future is in Hamilton so a bad egg down there is going to do no favours to anyone. I also said that if he went down to the farm and kicked ass because he wanted back on the big team, then that would be an option - but the longer I think about it the less I think that would happen
